Dear Thorncliffe Families,

We hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend!

Our Division 2 students had a wonderful time swimming last week! A huge thank you to our School Council for funding this opportunity and to all our parent volunteers who helped make it possible. We truly appreciate your time and support. We wouldn't be able to offer these experiences without you!

Open Minds Field Trips: Volunteers Needed!

We are still looking for parent volunteers for several upcoming Open Minds field trips. We have enough volunteers for Ms. Vuong’s class, yay! Please see below for dates when volunteers are still needed. If you are available to help, please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, trips may need to be cancelled if we do not have enough volunteers. Thank you for your support!

School Council Meeting: October 22

Our second School Council meeting of the year will take place online on Thursday, October 22. A meeting link will be shared closer to the date.

We are looking forward to hearing from Ms. Weir, who will share some of the wonderful learning happening in Kindergarten. Ms. Weir and Ms. Vuong will also share exciting plans for this year's school musical!

Additionally, we will be sharing information and gathering community input and feedback about a Video Surveillance Technology project that is planned at Thorncliffe School.  This project is part of a system wide implementation to improve safety and security at school.

All parents and guardians are welcome to attend.

After-School Supervision Reminder

We have noticed more students remaining on school grounds unsupervised after dismissal. Students are asked to head home promptly unless supervised by an adult. Students waiting for pickup should report to the office. Please see below for more information about after-school supervision.

As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to another great week of learning at Thorncliffe!

Warm regards,

Calleigh & Mary

Morning Supervision:

As a reminder, morning supervision begins at 9:00 a.m., with doors opening for soft entry at 9:05 a.m. Student learning starts at 9:15 a.m. We kindly ask that students not arrive before 9:00 a.m. unless accompanied by an adult.

Afterschool Supervision:

Unless supervised by an adult, students are asked to head home promptly after the 3:43 p.m. dismissal, as staff supervision is available for only 10 minutes after student dismissal.  At the end of supervision after school, students will be asked to head home or come to wait for a parent in the office.

Halloween at School:

Halloween is rapidly approaching and with it comes a lot of anticipation and excitement!  We will recognize Halloween on Friday, October 30th.  There will be learning centered activities planned at school and students are welcome to wear a costume if they would like.  Some reminders for the day:

  • Please do not send in any candy or treats to distribute
  • Costumes must be school appropriate and not too scary for young children
  • No masks or hand held props are allowed at school
  • Students need to be able to participate in all aspects of a regular day of school which means they can fully participate in all learning activities including phys. Ed.
