Dear Thorncliffe Families,
It has been such a joy to see the beautiful spring weather finally arrive! Students have been enjoying the sunshine and fresh air, bringing a positive and lively energy throughout the school. This past week was full of excitement, especially during our Bring Anything but a Backpack Day. Students showed great creativity, using items such as coolers, pots, and pans in place of backpacks! Our Switcheroo Day was also a great success, filled with smiles, laughter, and memorable moments as students and staff embraced the fun.
Monday is Hats on for Mental Health. Students are encouraged to wear a hat to help raise awareness and support important conversations around mental health.
With the warmer temperatures, you may wish to send sunscreen or bug spray with your child. Please ensure these are cream or lotion-based products and remind your child not to share them with others.
May is Asian Heritage Month, and we look forward to recognizing and celebrating this in meaningful ways throughout the month. More information about upcoming activities and learning opportunities will be shared soon. As ever, we welcome contributions and ideas brought forward by our families to recognize the cultural background of our community. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any ideas or suggestions that we can incorporate into our learning.
We are excited for our upcoming school musical on May 13th and 14th. Students have been working very hard in preparation. Please see below for details regarding costumes and showtimes. We hope many of you can join us to support their efforts.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

Morning Traffic:
This is a friendly reminder to please respect designated bus zones at all times. Parked vehicles in these areas create unsafe conditions for our buses. Additionally, please refrain from making U-turns near the school. This is not only unsafe for our students, but also illegal.
There have been increasing instances where students and families are crossing the road outside of designated crosswalks. There are marked crosswalks in several locations close to the school for students and families to use when crossing.
We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe school zone for everyone.
Morning Supervision:
As a reminder, morning supervision begins at 9:00 a.m., with doors opening for soft entry at 9:05 a.m. Student learning starts at 9:15 a.m. We kindly ask that students not arrive before 9:00 a.m. unless accompanied by an adult.
Afterschool Supervision:
Unless supervised by an adult, students are asked to head home promptly after the 3:43 p.m. dismissal, as staff supervision is available for only 10 minutes after student dismissal. At the end of supervision after school, students will be asked to head home or come to wait for a parent in the office.

What does my child need to wear?
Costumes are based on colour themes, and there is no expectation to purchase anything new. Please use what you already have at home, and if that is not possible, that is absolutely okay. Participating in the performance is what matters most. Please note that some classes have two different looks.
All costumes should allow students to move comfortably. Nothing should cover the eyes, and hats must be worn in a way that does not cast shadows on faces. Students should wear safe, appropriate shoes for dancing. If your child is wearing a dress, please ensure they wear leggings or shorts underneath.
