Dear Thorncliffe Families,

As we wrap up another week and head into the final week of May, we reflect on what has been an exciting and meaningful month at Thorncliffe. Students and staff have engaged in learning and celebrations related to Asian Heritage Month, Mental Health Awareness, and our school musical. It has been wonderful to see our school community come together through opportunities that foster creativity, belonging, well-being, and cultural appreciation.

This coming week, students will have the opportunity to celebrate their culture and identity through a student leadership initiative called “BE YOU” Day on Tuesday, May 26. Students are encouraged to share aspects of their culture, heritage, interests, or any other aspect that makes them unique. We look forward to celebrating the diversity and individuality that make our school community so special. Students were invited to create a personalized button that our leadership students will make and distribute to wear on the day.

Our Grade 6 students have a busy and exciting week ahead. They will write their first PAT exam on Monday, May 25, and on Wednesday, May 27, they will attend the Upstanders Showcase at the CBE Education Centre, where they will present their projects focused on human rights initiatives. We are very proud of their hard work and leadership.

There are many exciting events coming up in June, including Volunteer Appreciation and Welcome to Thorncliffe evening for our incoming Kindergarten and new Grade 1 students. Please take a moment to review the important dates below.

As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership. We hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

Warm regards,

Calleigh & Mary

Morning Traffic:

This is a friendly reminder to please respect designated bus zones at all times. Parked vehicles in these areas create unsafe conditions for our buses. Additionally, please refrain from making U-turns near the school. This is not only unsafe for our students, but also illegal.

There have been increasing instances where students and families are crossing the road outside of designated crosswalks.  There are marked crosswalks in several locations close to the school for students and families to use when crossing.

We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe school zone for everyone.

Morning Supervision:

As a reminder, morning supervision begins at 9:00 a.m., with doors opening for soft entry at 9:05 a.m. Student learning starts at 9:15 a.m. We kindly ask that students not arrive before 9:00 a.m. unless accompanied by an adult.

Afterschool Supervision:

Unless supervised by an adult, students are asked to head home promptly after the 3:43 p.m. dismissal, as staff supervision is available for only 10 minutes after student dismissal.  At the end of supervision after school, students will be asked to head home or come to wait for a parent in the office.
