Dear Thorncliffe Families,
We had another great week at school! During Mental Health Week, students learned about the importance of caring for both their minds and bodies. They also explored different Asian traditions and cultures as teachers shared meaningful aspects of their heritage in recognition of Asian Heritage Month.
This upcoming week is shaping up to be another busy and exciting one at Thorncliffe. Our Grade 6 students will be heading to the Calgary Zoo for their field trip on Monday, May 11th. We will also be holding our Night 2 dress rehearsal on May 12th at 10:00 a.m. as students and staff continue preparing for the musical performances taking place on May 13th and 14th. Please see below for more information regarding the musical, Redemption Island.
School Council will be hosting fundraising initiatives during the performances, with all proceeds going toward school initiatives such as Grade 6 hoodies. Fundraising activities will include a silent auction for VIP seating. VIP seating will feature front-row seating for 2–4 adults, popcorn, water, a candy bag, and skip-the-line access. School Council will also be running a concession stand selling water, popcorn, and candy bags. If you are interested in volunteering, a volunteer sign-up sheet will be available. For families that opt-in to email messages with commercial content, a link, and more information will be provided soon!
Please note that there will be no school on May 15th due to a professional development day.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. We hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

Traffic:
This is a friendly reminder to please respect designated bus zones at all times. Parked vehicles in these areas create unsafe conditions for our buses. Additionally, please refrain from making U-turns near the school. This is not only unsafe for our students, but also illegal.
There have been increasing instances where students and families are crossing the road outside of designated crosswalks. There are marked crosswalks in several locations close to the school for students and families to use when crossing.
We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe school zone for everyone.
Morning Supervision:
As a reminder, morning supervision begins at 9:00 a.m., with doors opening for soft entry at 9:05 a.m. Student learning starts at 9:15 a.m. We kindly ask that students not arrive before 9:00 a.m. unless accompanied by an adult.
Afterschool Supervision:
Unless supervised by an adult, students are asked to head home promptly after the 3:43 p.m. dismissal, as staff supervision is available for only 10 minutes after student dismissal. At the end of supervision after school, students will be asked to head home or come to wait for a parent in the office.

What does my child need to wear?
Costumes are based on colour themes, and there is no expectation to purchase anything new. Please use what you already have at home, and if that is not possible, that is absolutely okay. Participating in the performance is what matters most. Please note that some classes have two different looks.
All costumes should allow students to move comfortably. Nothing should cover the eyes, and hats must be worn in a way that does not cast shadows on faces. Students should wear safe, appropriate shoes for dancing. If your child is wearing a dress, please ensure they wear leggings or shorts underneath.
