Dear Thorncliffe Families,  

We hope you had a wonderful week despite the heavy rain. We were delighted to welcome our incoming Kindergarten and Grade 1 families at our 'Welcome to Kindergarten and Grade 1' evening. It was a great opportunity to share information about our school and highlight what makes the Thorncliffe School community such a supportive and engaging place for children to learn.  

Our Grade 2/3 students had a busy and exciting week. They enjoyed their TELUS Spark field trip, which provided hands-on, real-world learning experiences. They also continued their work with Pearl Whitequills on the naturalization project, supporting learning that is connected to Indigenous perspectives.  

Our Grade 6 students completed their Reading Provincial Achievement Test and continue to demonstrate leadership throughout the school. The Gr 6 Leadership students supported the Volunteer Appreciation Event, helping to recognize the important contributions of our school volunteers. We extend a sincere thank you to all of our volunteers; your time, care, and commitment play a vital role in enriching student learning and school experiences.  

Looking ahead to the upcoming week, students will participate in a variety of exciting learning opportunities, including the Kindergarten Celebration of Learning and the Grade 6 students will have their Science Provincial Achievement Test. Please be sure to review the important dates and reminders below for additional upcoming events and activities.

Bikes:  

With the warmer weather, it has been wonderful to see so many students riding their bikes to school. To help keep everyone safe, please remind your child to wear a helmet, walk their bike once they arrive on school property, and lock their bike securely at the bike racks.  

We have had several students requesting to store their bikes in the office; however, due to limited space, we are unable to accommodate bike storage inside the school. Thank you for your support in helping keep our students safe and our school grounds organized. 

Morning Traffic: 

This is a friendly reminder to please respect designated bus zones at all times. Parked vehicles in these areas create unsafe conditions for our buses. Additionally, please refrain from making U-turns near the school. This is not only unsafe for our students, but also illegal. 

There have been increasing instances where students and families are crossing the road outside of designated crosswalks.  There are marked crosswalks in several locations close to the school for students and families to use when crossing.    

We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe school zone for everyone. 

Morning Supervision: 

As a reminder, morning supervision begins at 9:00 a.m., with doors opening for soft entry at 9:05 a.m. Student learning starts at 9:15 a.m. We kindly ask that students not arrive before 9:00 a.m. unless accompanied by an adult.  

Afterschool Supervision: 

Unless supervised by an adult, students are asked to head home promptly after the 3:43 p.m. dismissal, as staff supervision is available for only 10 minutes after student dismissal.  At the end of supervision after school, students will be asked to head home or come to wait for a parent in the office.

Applications for Yellow Bus Service are now available on your MYCBE account. Applications for the 2026-27 school year are due June 14, 2026 

2026-2027 Registration and New Year Planning 

If your family is planning a move or making a different school decision for next year, please contact the office to let us know when you have confirmed your plan.  This way we can be proactive with transition planning for your child, and it helps us in making decisions as we plan for the next year.
