Dear Thorncliffe Families, 

We hope you all had a wonderful week. It has been another eventful and exciting week at Thorncliffe, with so much to celebrate across all grade levels. 

Our Grade 6 students proudly shared the projects they completed through the Upstander Program, showcasing their initiatives related to social justice and human rights. Our Kindergarten students also delivered an excellent Celebration of Learning, highlighting their growth and accomplishments throughout the year. Thank you to all the students, staff, and families who joined us in celebrating their hard work and achievements. 

This coming week, our Division I students are looking forward to swimming lessons. Students must have their signed off-site form and swimming ability form to participate. Extra copies are available in the office for families that need to complete this for their child.  Once again, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all our volunteers who help make these field trips possible. Your time and support are greatly appreciated. 

As we prepare to wrap up another successful school year, we are looking forward to several special events, including Activity Day and the Grade 6 Farewell. If you are interested in volunteering for either event, please contact the office or your child's teacher. Please see below for important dates as we head into the final weeks of the school year.

Back to School Information:

School Hours for 2026-2027 will remain the same as the current year. 

First day of school for students is August 31, 2026. 

Report Cards: 

Student report cards will be available for parents to view on June 25^th.  Report cards can viewed using your MyCBE account.  If a printed copy is required, please contact the main office. 

Appeals day is Monday, July 29^th from 9:00am-12:00pm.   

Bikes:  

With the warmer weather, it has been wonderful to see so many students riding their bikes to school. To help keep everyone safe, please remind your child to wear a helmet, walk their bike once they arrive on school property, and lock their bike securely at the bike racks.  

We have had several students requesting to store their bikes in the office; however, due to limited space, we are unable to accommodate bike storage inside the school. Thank you for your support in helping keep our students safe and our school grounds organized. 

Morning Traffic: 

This is a friendly reminder to please respect designated bus zones at all times. Parked vehicles in these areas create unsafe conditions for our buses. Additionally, please refrain from making U-turns near the school. This is not only unsafe for our students, but also illegal. 

There have been increasing instances where students and families are crossing the road outside of designated crosswalks.  There are marked crosswalks in several locations close to the school for students and families to use when crossing.    

We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe school zone for everyone. 

Morning Supervision: 

As a reminder, morning supervision begins at 9:00 a.m., with doors opening for soft entry at 9:05 a.m. Student learning starts at 9:15 a.m. We kindly ask that students not arrive before 9:00 a.m. unless accompanied by an adult.  

Afterschool Supervision: 

Unless supervised by an adult, students are asked to head home promptly after the 3:43 p.m. dismissal, as staff supervision is available for only 10 minutes after student dismissal.  At the end of supervision after school, students will be asked to head home or come to wait for a parent in the office.

School Council 

Upcoming Meeting: 

The next Annual General Meeting will be Tuesday, September 15^th at 6:00 p.m. Families can attend in person or online.  A link will be shared closer to the date.  The council is seeking additional members to add their voices to support our school.  If you have any questions or would like additional information about school council, email thorncliffesc@gmail.com  

Casino Dates 2026: 

• December 7 & 8 
• Will require many volunteers 
• Casino funds many opportunities for students including: field trips, in school activities such as artist in residence, sports residences, hoop dancing and scientist in school, and swimming lessons 
• Please consider planning to volunteer to support the casino! 

2026-2027 Yellow Bus Service 

Applications for Yellow Bus Service are now available on your MYCBE account. Applications for the 2026-27 school year were due June 14, 2026 

2026-2027 Registration and New Year Planning 

If your family is planning a move or making a different school decision for next year, please contact the office to let us know when you have confirmed your plan.  This way we can be proactive with transition planning for your child, and it helps us in making decisions as we plan for the next year.
