Dear Thorncliffe Families,

We hope you had a wonderful week and enjoyed the long weekend. Our staff appreciated the opportunity to learn together during Friday’s professional learning day.

A special thank you to our division 1 teachers and students for leading a fantastic Earth Day assembly on Wednesday. We also appreciate the families who joined us in support of our students.

The upcoming week promises to be another busy and exciting one. On Monday, our Grade 6 students will be heading to The Confluence for a field trip. On Tuesday, April 28, we will have class photo day. On Thursday, April 30, our Leadership team has organized a fun Spirit Day. Students are invited to bring anything but a backpack to carry their belongings, as long as it fits under the hooks and is no larger than a standard backpack. We will also have an OPA Fun Lunch that day. We will wrap up the week with Switcheroo on Friday.

Please remind your child that gum is not permitted at school. We have noticed an increase in students chewing gum, which creates safety concerns and is difficult to clean.

Continue to follow along for musical updates. Information about show times and costumes are posted below.

Thank you for your continued support.

Morning Traffic:

This is a friendly reminder to please respect designated bus zones at all times. Parked vehicles in these areas create unsafe conditions for our buses. Additionally, please refrain from making U-turns near the school. This is not only unsafe for our students, but also illegal.

We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe school zone for everyone.

Morning Supervision:

As a reminder, morning supervision begins at 9:00 a.m., with doors opening for soft entry at 9:05 a.m. Student learning starts at 9:15 a.m. We kindly ask that students not arrive before 9:00 a.m. unless accompanied by an adult.

Afterschool Supervision:

Unless supervised by an adult, students are asked to head home promptly after the 3:43 p.m. dismissal, as staff supervision is available for only 10 minutes after student dismissal.  At the end of supervision after school, students will be asked to head home or come to wait for a parent in the office.

What does my child need to wear?

Costumes are based on colour themes, and there is no expectation to purchase anything new. Please use what you already have at home, and if that is not possible, that is absolutely okay. Participating in the performance is what matters most. Please note that some classes have two different looks.

All costumes should allow students to move comfortably. Nothing should cover the eyes, and hats must be worn in a way that does not cast shadows on faces. Students should wear safe, appropriate shoes for dancing. If your child is wearing a dress, please ensure they wear leggings or shorts underneath.
