Dear Thorncliffe Families,
Staff and students had a wonderful first few days back at school. We are so happy to be together again.
Next week we will have our 2nd Fire Drill of the year on Tuesday afternoon. We will talk about safe, silent and serious to prepare students for the drill.
We want to ensure that we remind families about the importance of safety coming to and leaving school. Please review the following safety messages:
- Walk to and from school with a buddy or a small group
- Go directly home and ensure that your parent knows where you are at all times
- Cross streets at cross walks taking time to make sure vehicles know that you are preparing to cross before entering the road way
- Use extra caution around large vehicles like busses – they cannot see you when you are beside them and behind them
- Please do not jaywalk, particularly in the bus zone
- U-Turns are not permitted in school zones
- When riding a bike or scooter a helmet is required and in order to keep you safe, the chin strap needs to be fastened
On Friday we will have a Remembrance Day Ceremony at school. Families are invited to participate in this event. The doors will open at 10:30am, with the ceremony planned to start at 10:45am. Thank you to the grade 4/5 and 6 teachers, as well as Ms. Weir for planning this beautiful ceremony for our school community.
As a reminder, all adults entering the building must enter through the front doors and check in at the office. Student doors are open at the beginning of the day for students to enter. For safety reasons, we cannot allow any adults to enter the building other than through the front door.
Ms. Duque's last day at Thorncliffe will be Friday, November 7th. Ms. Duque has made a huge positive impact on everyone at Thorncliffe and she will be missed. From Fall Break until the Winter Break, we will have an acting Assistant Principal to support our school.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Nadine and Calleigh
