Dear Thorncliffe Families,
At Thorncliffe, we are committed to using culturally relevant tasks and resources throughout the year which include resources that represent our students and community. Our School Development Plan is focused on creating tasks that are meaningful, engaging and that our students can see the relevance of. This means that lesson plans, books, resources etc. represent a variety of cultures and backgrounds, in contemporary and historical contexts every month. For February, to recognize and honour Black History Month, a particular emphasis will be placed on highlighting the contributions, stories, and celebrations of Black Canadians.
As winter continues, please ensure your children are dressed warmly for the cold weather. It is recommended to dress in layers including hats, gloves, and snowpants to help keep kids warm and to wear warm boots that are insulated and waterproof. CBE cold weather policy states:
- Schools remain open unless otherwise notified.
- Check the CBE website, social media, or local news for closures.
- Children should not wait unattended at bus stops. Have a backup plan if the bus is delayed.
- Outdoor breaks are important, but students stay inside if temperatures drop to -20°C or colder, including wind chill.
Let's keep our kids warm and safe this winter!
Please note that this is a short week, with classes on Monday-Wednesday. There is no school on Thursday and Friday for Teacher’s convention.
Warm Regards,
Calleigh and Nadine
